ORGANIC ENGLISH COUNTRYSIDE BARN & CHURCH WEDDING

I can’t believe I haven’t blogged this wedding here before – it was featured on Once Wed last year and is still one of my all time favourites.

When I was first introduced to Chelsea and James I knew their wedding was going to be beautifully simple and chic – together they had already launched Pacific Northwest design brand Grain, a sustainability focused design company launched after they’d been spotlighted as part of New York Design Week.

This couple chose to host their marriage celebration in the idyllic English countryside town of Chipping Campden in the Cotswolds, where Chelsea’s grandparents had lived while she was growing up and where she spent holidays as a child. A place of many fond family memories, but not without it’s difficulties – namely planning a wedding from abroad with rather a large time difference!

For the reception dinner, Chelsea opted to have two long parallel tables sat beneath draped garlands of hand-harvested foliage that had been hung in the main barn the day before. The table settings were kept simple with lavender and rosemary, and hundreds of candles which I lit before the guests arrived.

A giant chandelier and yet more candles were the only accessories to the dance floor in the evening – their first song was Johnny Cash and June Carter’s If I Were a Carpenter. Such sweet lyrics for the sweetest couple.

“What we love most about Chelsea and James’s wedding in the English countryside is how simple, chic and traditionally English it all is. They planned with a focus on locally sourced and artisan produce, utilizing locally grown wildflowers, regionally sourced items in the menu, and locally produced cheeses”

FROM THE FARM TABLE

Last Summer, amidst some of the dreamiest weddings I had the pleasure of working on, I took a little journey to Spain where I spent some time in Barcelona (I stayed here, it was amazing!) before hopping on a train to Zaragoza. From there I met Fine Art & Film Photographer Ashlee Taylor, and we travelled through beautiful olive groves and rural countryside to the most beautiful ancient monastery for a one day mentoring and styling workshop with a group of other amazing photographers from around the world.

I was delighted to host a talk on styling and design, before a hands on session shooting details and bridal portraits together in the afternoon. The official photos were featured on Grey Likes Weddings, and I’ve gathered some of my favourites below too.

The styling originally inspired by the colors of beautiful egg shells, and this developed into a “from the farm table” concept with rustic elements combined in a sweet and simple way to compliment local produce and the warm stone setting – we foraged local olive trees to add to arrangements created by my sister Georgia at Westwood Design, as well as delicious food produce from local markets.

“We’re getting all dreamy and lost in these splendid images from ILLUMINATED COLLECTIVE‘s recent workshop. It’s light, it’s airy and it’s just plain beautiful. The details, like the gathered local florals, are quietly stunning and the MONASTERIO DE PIEDRA location is nothing short of spectacular. Lucky for all of us, the warmth and beauty of ASHLEE TAYLOR‘s vintage-style film photography perfectly captured stylist JESSIE THOMSON‘s vision. Enjoy!”

SHOPKINS & KAWAII THEMED BIRTHDAY PARTY

A few months ago I hosted a 4th birthday party for my little girl Flora – she’d asked me for a shopkins themed birthday party, and with the current trend in cute kawaii food I embraced it fully – cute faces on cookies, polka dot filled giant balloons, super sweet bright colours and a bespoke pin the candle on the cake game for the smallest guests. I made a bright coloured streamer pass the parcel ball (I’m now obsessed with these), and invented a few other food/shopping related games – from pretend egg n’ spoon races to shopping basket filling competitions.

It was featured on Inspired by This too, with pretty photos by Sarah Hannam (you should also go check out the DIY Tutorial for the bouquet Flora is holding over on Style Me Pretty).

“From the fun cutout milk cartons and ice cream cones, to the giant yellow poppies that decked out the picnic tables, this 4th birthday party is full of creative, fun details. It’s only fitting that Flora had a colorful floral birthday party, whose mom, Jessie Thomson, totally decked it out with balloons, desserts, and plenty of fun & games. Flora’s aunt, of Westwood Design, styled all the pretty pink & yellow florals. Let’s go back to those desserts – “milk & cookies” shaped cookies, sprinkle cake pops, and an iced donut topped cake are just the start of the sugar rush! We can only imagine how much these toddlers enjoyed it. We love this fun theme and know you’ll love it just as much!”

MODERN LUXURY ~ BRIGHT & BEAUTIFUL WEDDING INSPIRATION AT AYNHOE PARK

I’ve been talking a lot recently about redefining luxury for the modern bride and groom – those stylish couples who care about creating an intimate and memorable atmosphere for their wedding day as much as they want the florals and decor to be completely beautiful.

It’s sometimes hard to imagine how you can pair simplicity, elegance and feminine details within a more grand or traditional venue. So I was delighted to have the opportunity to do so last year as part of a styling workshop I hosted for wedding professionals at the rather spectacular Aynhoe Park.

I was originally inspired by a colour palette I’d seen in a beautiful photo of a bowl of mixed fruit and berries – the deep reds and bright pinks were hugely appealing to me in that moment, which was surprising really as usually I’m not a big fan of red in wedding design. This shoot definitely changed my mind! The venue itself was also an influence on the overall shoot brief too – Aynhoe Park is a grand and beautifully eccentric country house that just wouldn’t have suited a subtle or soft pastel palette of colours, it’s bold yet beautiful, and I wanted to show off it’s feminine side with a slightly more romantic luxe element.

I’m best known for my organic, feminine and timeless designs for weddings – and this shoot was no different. With large overflowing florals that feature lots of texture, soft flowing linen, antique tableware, beautifully tapered candles in a calm neutral colours to balance the bold pinks on a distressed white dining table – it’s meant to feel like you are dining in luxury without looking over the top or in any way forced. The bridal gowns selected were similarly soft and flowing, but with lots of gorgeous detail to reflect the tone and setting of the day.

When working with such bright and bold colours (especially bright pinks and shades of red) it’s so important to make sure the design scheme is visually balanced in some way. For me that was largely achieved by introducing lots of soft neutral colours in shades of white, beige and gold. Though also it’s just as important to balance the design with a feminine touch – if the florals are bright then also make them less structured and more organic, mirror the colours in linen but allow space for your other details to breathe with less dramatic style choices.

Both the bouquet and table flowers by Amy at Bo Boutique featured a real mix of florals in terms of shapes and sizes, all within the red/pink spectrum – from giant peonies, huge tulips, roses, and astilbe – broken up with lots of amazing smelling eucalyptus and more unusual varieties.I fell completely in love with Gemma Milly’s amazing hand painted stationery that she designed bespoke for this shoot. It’s something that so many brides overlook, but can make a huge difference to the tablescape and will be the first element your guest encounters before the big day – so lovely to give a hint of what is to come.

Official photographer Ashlee Taylor was there to capture all the details of the styled editorial shoot, but we were also lucky enough to have Xander & Thea behind the scenes – I promise to share her beautiful images of not only the workshop in action, but also a totally stunning tour of Aynhoe Park itself, any interior design addicts won’t want to miss that post!

But first, I’m so delighted to share the main shoot with you below – as featured in You & Your Wedding magazine, with full credits at the end.

CORAL & MINT WEDDING INSPIRATION | KINGSCOTE BARN | COTSWOLDS, UK

I’ve been posting lots of photos from this beautiful wedding on Instagram recently, because it’s just been the 2nd wedding anniversary of this gorgeous bride and groom! I was looking back at the images, as featured in BRIDES magazine, and suddenly realised I had never blogged it here! I actually have quite a few real weddings and editorial shoots to catch up on… so what this space!

However, in honour of their wedding anniversary I thought I’d take the chance to share the big day pics – there was also a beautiful Chinese Tea Ceremony the day before, as featured on Style Me Pretty which I might just post separately as it’s so darn dreamy. Huge credit to Leah Kua for capturing every moment so perfectly.

SWEET BLUSH AND BLACKBERRY COTSWOLDS GARDEN WEDDING

This has to be one of my stand out weddings from 2015, as featured on Style Me Pretty recently – a small and intimate garden wedding at Barnsley House & Spa, which I designed and planned for the sweetest couple from Hong Kong.

The inspiration for this design plan actually started with the bride’s favourite scent – Jo Malone Blackberry & Bay – from wild berries in the florals, to fresh rosemary, lavender and rose petal confetti – even the bridesmaids crowns featured fresh herbs, all created by the super talented Georgia from Westwood Design. We almost didn’t have the outdoor ceremony thanks to good old British weather and spells of rain all morning, but at the last minute it cleared in time and we put the brollies aside for a candle lit affair in the gorgeous grounds. This followed with a reception where guests were treated to sweet treats, refreshing drinks and canapés, before inviting them to watch a traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony in the late afternoon setting sun.

After the most delicious dinner served by the team at Barnsley House on long tables set with hundreds of rosemary & bay scented candles and flowers, the happy couple led their family and friends back into the gardens for signature cocktails, and cutting of the cake surrounded by sparklers. Faye at The Natural Cake Co creates insanely beautiful cakes whilst using all organic natural ingredients – I styled this rose flavoured cake with Westwood Design using fresh figs, flowers and herbs.

The Bride wore the most gorgeous sparkling evening dress for the first dance a little later on, before The Wedding Smashers kicked off a great night of dancing and entertainment for the newlyweds until the early hours of the morning.

A huge thank you to the cast of amazing artists and creatives involved in this wedding – all credited below.

BLUSH + GOLD TRADITIONAL COTSWOLDS MARQUEE WEDDING

I have so many beautiful weddings to share with you from last year, and still can’t quite believe I managed 15 weddings whilst pregnant with Augie Bear. I simply couldn’t have done it without my fabulous team of assistants and suppliers, namely my sister Georgia from Westwood Design who I trust simplicity to care for the little details as much as I do!

I thought I’d actually share one of my favourites with you today, which happened to be just three weeks before I went into labour (!) – every wedding is special, but doing full wedding design and planning brings you so much closer to a couple and their family – and I adored this chic and traditional Cotswolds church wedding with garden marquee reception.

The wedding was featured on Style Me Pretty and you can find the full list of vendors at the end.

INTIMATE AND VINTAGE DINNER PARTY WEDDING

You know what makes me happy? REALLY happy? Seeing my beautiful brides and handsome grooms gracing the pages of my fave ever magazines and blogs. It’s so nice to see all of the pretty details and sweet moments gathered together into a little love story for others to admire and share.

Ever since I got engaged myself in 2009, I have obsessed over pretty much everything that Style Me Pretty features. So to be a member of their exclusive little black book, and have my work published by them is a dream come true. Literally!

Recently they featured one of the most lovely weddings I’ve ever worked on, set in the Cotswolds was this intimate wedding inspired by the glamour of Great Gatsby. I honestly adored the bride, she is one of those girls you really want to be friends with. You know the ones?

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the photo’s and be sure to read the original feature on Style Me Pretty too!

A GLASTONBURY FESTIVAL WEDDING WITH FOOD TRUCKS AND A FIRE MAZE

I’ve been itching to share images from this wedding with you for ages! It was featured on Rock My Wedding a few weeks back and had a HUGE response from readers.

Hipster Wedding Festival | UK Wedding Planner | Jessie Thomson

I am hugely grateful to Camera Hannah for being an absolute champion and getting all these amazing shots, as well as creating a super special wedding film which you can see at the end. Took me ages to choose my fave images… so many.

I was first contacted by this incredibly cool bride back in the Spring of 2012, and I liked her immediately! This was a couple who wanted a wedding that was more like a party, they wanted to make it personal and they wanted to make it awesome. There were a few drawbacks… a not so massive budget, a groom who liked to party on through the night, a requirement to have all of it outside despite the UK’s tendency to tip it down at most inconvenient times, and a large number of guests flying over from the US! It was certainly going to be a challenge, but I was excited, and they needed my help. What could I say?

Over the next year and a half I became a huge part of “Team Jones” and their crazy wonderful wedding vision. From finding the right venue (I have never seen such a long shortlist as the one first presented to me!), to sourcing every single supplier, advising on timings and budgeting, and everything in between… we ended up creating this incredible day.

As with most couples on a tight budget, there was a serious amount of DIY effort put into the decor, but two creative minds are evidently unstoppable! It helped that we had some amazing suppliers on site who really understood the vision too, as well as a host of wonderfully supportive friends and family to volunteer their services in the final few days. I loved the little community that was formed at the wedding site all weekend, it made everything feel so much more special.

I had THE BEST time at this wedding. I know, I was working, but it honestly didn’t feel like work once the party got started. Oh and I got to walk around a fire maze with “Ring of Fire” being played at the same time by the headline act. Career highlight, for sure.

I hope you enjoy the photo’s as much as everyone enjoyed the day. Remember, don’t be afraid to get your dream wedding. Anything is possible, especially when you have a wedding planner. 😉

Do take a look at this wedding film by Camera Hannah too. It’s beautiful, and really gives you more of an insider view of the day. She’s so darn clever!

FIG & FLORALS WEDDING INSPIRATION {Belle & Beau Photography}

as-seen- smp-blackI shared a few images with you recently from the fig and olive styled shoot I collaborated with Ashlee from Taylor Barnes Photography on earlier this year. The beauty of it was that we also had two incredible guest photographers working alongside Ashlee to make sure all the pretty was captured, and to show off different styles of fine art photography at it’s best.

So I’m delighted to share with you some of the gorgeous work from Holly at Belle & Beau Photography, which has also just been featured on the Style Me Pretty Little Black Book blog.

As before, links to all of those involved are listed at the end. Please do go and check each of the suppliers out for yourselves – they really were a fantastic team to work with and I’d recommend them all in a heartbeat. If you’re excited about these images as much as I am then you’ll also be happy to hear that I still have Part 3 and a few great DIY tutorials to share with you very soon too!

What I loved about this project is that we used real couples rather than models, which meant the chemistry you can see in the images is totally genuine. It really helped us capture the romance so often missing from styled shoots… that and amazing direction from photographers of course!
